Lawmakers Suspend Confirmation Hearing for VA Secretary Nominee Ronny Jackson

White House Doctor Continues Veterans Chief Fight

On Tuesday, Tester told CNN's Anderson Cooper that others who have come forward alleged that Jackson would hand out prescriptions "like candy" on overseas trips, distributing Ambien and Provigil down the aisle of the airplane. He also provided a "large supply" of Percocet, an opioid medication, to a staffer.

Gidley said the FBI background investigation into Jackson "was clean and there are no issues in the background check whatsoever".

The summary was released by Democrats as the White House rallied behind Dr. Ronny Jackson. After examining Trump earlier this year, Jackson proclaimed him to be in "excellent" health and said he had "incredibly good genes".

The White House says it was Jackson who requested that assessment and hinted Kuhlman is behind the more recent complaints. "I don't want to put a man through a process like this".

The White House says Jackson has never been the subject of an Inspector General's report and pointed to glowing performance reviews he received from both Trump and Obama.

A summary of unverified allegations against Veterans Affairs nominee Ronny Jackson obtained by TPM claims Jackson wrote his own prescriptions and drunkenly totaled a government vehicle at a Secret Service going-away party.

Tester revealed the allegations Tuesday on NPR's "All Things Considered" after Jackson's confirmation hearings were delayed.

Jackson has served in the medical unit since 2006, caring for three presidents.

"I had questions at the outset about whether he had the management experience", Mr. Coons said when asked if he thought the accusations were part of a "smear campaign".

When investigators returned to assess progress the following year, they found some improvements in morale at the roughly 50-person medical office, but noted Jackson still needed to "hone his self-awareness" of behaviors that trigger staff perceptions that "his actions are purely politically driven for his self-advancement".

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders defended Jackson to The New York Times, which first obtained the summary of the allegations.
