Meek Mill says prison release doesn't mean he feels free

Meek Mill

After six months in prison, Meek Mill is a free man.

I've got a lot of responsibility, I've got a lot of important people depending on me.

"In the meantime, I plan to work closely with my legal team to overturn this unwarranted conviction and look forward to reuniting with my family and resuming my music career", said Mill, whose last album Wins and Losses reached number three on the U.S. chart.

The rapper was released from prison this week after the Philadelphia Supreme Court issued an order overruling a previous decision by Judge Genece E. Brinkley, who had denied Mill's bail last week. Following his release (Apr. 24), he was immediately whisked away by helicopter with co-owner of the Philadelphia 76ers Michael Rubin and fellow Philly native/comedian Kevin Hart to attend the playoff game (where the Sixers won against the Miami Heat).

Mill had been sentenced in November to two to four years behind bars for probation violations, setting off an all-out battle by a team of lawyers and public relations consultants to get him released on bail.

Robert Rihmeek Williams, 30, more commonly known as Meek Mill has been released from prison.

"I believe God is my first lawyer", the rap star told newsman Lester Holt on Wednesday, explaining he plans to use his time as a headline grabber to help others who he feels are wrongly imprisoned.

Mill, who was born Robert Rihmeek Williams, spent nearly five months incarcerated following a controversial sentence for violating probation. "He caught a charge when he was, like 19. There's a lot of light shedded on my situation", he said, as reported by Rolling Stone. They say he should never have been jailed. And I'm not talking about public officials, I'm talking about the men that are depending on me and are going through the same thing I'm going through'.

'In the meantime, I plan to work closely with my legal team to overturn this unwarranted conviction and look forward to reuniting with my family and resuming my music career, ' he said. He rang the opening bell before the National Basketball Association play-off game.
