NFL draft: New England playing the option game

Lamar Jackson

The New England Patriots star tight end recently committed to returning to the team for the upcoming 2018-2019 season just before the 2018 NFL Draft gets underway. I'm feeling great. I've been working out hard, and I feel super, super pliable, and it's huge. We can all look forward to seeing more Brady-to-Gronkowski touchdowns next season.

Three days later, Gronkowski made it official.

Are the New England Patriots impressed with Lamar Jackson enough to do whatever it takes to select him in Thursday night's National Football League draft?

The Patriots' 2010 second-round draft out of the University of Arizona, Gronkowski is a five-time Pro Bowl performer and a four-time All-Pro. Now, the Patriots can turn their attention to bringing Tom Brady back to Boston. A source also told Schefter that Gronkowski will not be traded this season.

Gronkowski, who hasn't played a full season since 2011, caught 69 passes for 1,084 yards and eight touchdowns last fall to earn All-Pro honors.

Here's how we see the draft going for the Patriots, which includes a trade back at No. 31 overall. Though he has battled a number of injuries throughout his career, Gronkowski stayed relatively healthy past year and left opposing defense's struggling to cover him week after week. He was a critical component of the team's Super Bowl run during that season, though they ultimately fell just short to the New York Giants.

The news now allows all of New England to take a collective sign of relief. Health pending, of course, this is a better group of skill players than the team had in 2017.

Gronkowski ended the post with a "bands a make her dance" hashtag - which is a Juicy J song that he's been tweeting about all offseason.
