Congress will retain power in Karnataka: Scindia

Ugrappa, in his complaint, said the advertisements were also contrary to the provisions of the Indian Penal Code as well as the Representation of People's Act. The Congress said the advertisement has been wilfully issued by the BJP with the intention of "consolidating votes on basis of religion".

The committee restrained the media yesterday from airing or sharing the advertisements on the ground that they were violative of guidelines.

The Congress leader claimed that it was happening in a "brazen manner" and a ban must be imposed on them immediately.

The Congress has approached the Election Commission against an advertisement released by the BJP as part of its Karnataka poll campaign. "We will return home tomorrow and come back on May 8 as election officials are threatening to seize our vehicles", said Yadgir district Valmiki-Nayak Sangh president, Mariyappa Nayak.

Hubballi: With Chief Minister Siddaramaiah contesting from Badami in addition to Chamundeshwari these elections, Valmiki-Nayak leaders from the Hyderabad-Karnataka region are doing everything they can to defeat him in the former constituency. "Through these advertisements the Karnataka BJP has explicitly made baseless, unsubstantiated, vague and scandalous allegations and remarks", the complaint said.

Pressure cookers with names of Congress leaders embossed on them have been found but no action was taken by the state election commission officials, they said.

Besides action against the Congress leaders, the BJP has demanded that a few deputy commissioners and some other state officials be removed, he said.

"In view of the above, it is also just and necessary for this commission to take cognizance of these illegal and unlawful acts and prosecute responsible bodies and individuals in accordance with law", it said.

The Congress urged for action against those involved in the alleged violations and to take action against members of the MCMC for approving such advertisements.

On April 27, the Karnataka state unit of the Congress on Thursday filed a complaint with the EC demanding action against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP chief Amit Shah, and state party president BS Yeddyurappa for alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct.
