Dad was playing Pokemon while French 'Spider-Man' saved tot

Gassama 22 took less than 30 seconds to reach the child and has since been compared to the Marvel superhero Spider-Man

French prosecutor Francois Molins said the father went shopping and then chose to play the mobile game. His mother was out of town.

The French media reported that the father of the small child was detained for alleged parental neglect.

Paris migrant hero Mamoudou Gassama dubbed "Spiderman" rewarded by French president after he climbed several stories to reach a toddler dangling from the edge of a balcony.

During a meeting in the Elysée presidential palace on Monday, Macron praised Gassama's heroic deed and promised him French citizenship.

It was a jaw-dropping feat captured on video that went viral and also captured the hearts of onlookers who were stunned, but their senses were probably tingling with appreciation.

Mr Gassama, who only arrived in France a year ago, told the French President he had been walking past when he saw a crowd gathered in front of the building. Sounds like Gassama will be putting those scaling skills to good use.

Gassama told Macron that God "helped me", during the rescue. He said he couldn't have done it without God.

"I ran. I crossed the street to save him", Gassama said, the AP said.

"With Mr Gassama who saved a child's life on Saturday by climbing 4 floors with his bare hands". In the clip, the 22-year-old can be seen pulling himself from balcony to balcony to reach the child.

Now the 22-year-old hero is being honoured with French citizenship and has been offered a job by the Paris fire brigade for his courageous act. The boy's mother was out of Paris during the incident, authorities say. "I told him that his heroic act is an example to all citizens and that the city of Paris will obviously be very keen to support him in his efforts to settle in France". The father is no longer in custody but is due in court in September, and the child has been placed in care, according to a spokesman for the Paris prosecutor.

He had gone out shopping, French prosecutor Francois Molins said in an interview Monday with BFM TV.

"I did it because it was a child", the newspaper quoted him as saying. "Because France is a will, and Mr. Gassama has demonstrated with commitment that he had it!" "We are ready to welcome him".
