Following Scandal Involving Cambridge Analytica 200 Apps Suspended by Facebook

Facebook says it has suspended 200 apps for possible misuse of data

Archibong does not confirm how much longer the audit will take - but does admit there's a long way to go, writing that: "There is a lot more work to be done to find all the apps that may have misused people's Facebook data - and it will take time".

Facebook, as part of cleaning up the mess left in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica scandal, said it has temporarily suspended 200 apps that had access to large amounts of user data prior to 2014.

Facebook has suspended 200 apps following its ongoing investigation into the misuse of data.

You might recall the Facebook hearing after the Cambridge Analytica scandal hit.

CEO and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg first announced the investigation into such apps on March 21, as part of his initial response to the Cambridge Analytica fiasco.

However, the social network is facing continued questions from lawmakers in the United Kingdom and U.S., and Mr Zuckerberg has been threatened with a formal summons to appear before a parliamentary inquiry into fake news after a recent testimony by chief technology officer Mike Schroepfer was labelled "unsatisfactory" after he failed to answer a number of questions from MPs.

For any apps Facebook is concerned with, it then conducts interviews and asks for detailed information about the app and its data usage. The exact scale of user information that's been taken and shared by Facebook app devlopers since the platform's inception-made possible by leaky and/or poorly enforced app developer policies-may never be known.

Update: A Facebook spokeswoman told us the company intends to provide more details about any apps it decides to ban after concluding each case-by-case investigation. A spokesman for Antonio Tajani, the president of the parliament, did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.

Once the second phase is complete, Facebook users will be notified via a Facebook website if their personal data was jeopardized. Apps requesting to see other data, such as the posts likes and photos, will need to be approved by Facebook.

Of course, all this depends on Facebook's definitions of misuse.
