Man who threw shoe at George W. Bush seeks parliament seat in Iraq

Remember the Iraqi journalist who missed George Bush - twice - when he flung his "size 10" shoes, one after the other, at the former USA president at a press conference in 2008?

Footage of the incident shows al-Zaidi screaming 'This is your farewell kiss, you dog!' as he threw the footwear.

Nearly a decade after inciting an global diplomatic incident, Muntazer Al-Zaidi has announced that he is pursing a political career as lawmaker in Iraq.

"As you know me from a long time ago, I will be supporting the oppressed people and be against oppressors", he said in an online video.

Before he was swarmed by security personnel, Zaidi managed to get off one more throw, adding, "This is for the widows and orphans and all those killed in Iraq".

While Bush flew home, al-Zaidi was sentenced to three years in prison, which was eventually reduced to just 12 months. Bush and former Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki in Baghdad in 2008 when he chose to throw his shoes. Now Zaidi is running for the president's post, the election for which is schedule on May 12.

Zaidi was arrested and locked up for the attempted attack on a visiting head of state and spent nine months behind bars before he was released early for good behaviour.

Al-Zaidi is now running for the Council of Representatives, the country's legislative branch, BuzzFeed News reported.

Iraqi-born broadcaster Muntadhar al-Zaidi was at a press conference with Mr.

"I don't have any issue with America or Americans", al-Zaidi told CNN on Wednesday.

The American president ducked, and both shoes sailed above him. In 2008, Kanye West still thought George W. Bush didn't care about black people.
