Liverpool star Joe Gomez facing devastating Champions League and World Cup blow

Mohamed Salah vs. Harry Kane

Beat Brighton and they'll be guaranteed Champions League football next season - although Tottenham could still leapfrog them into third.

However, Gomez will be absent from the showdown with Real Madrid, which takes place on 26 May, and will also miss the World Cup this summer.

Unless Klopp's best friend David Wagner and his Huddersfield side can pull off a surprise win at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, then Liverpool go into Sunday's game knowing they must at least match Chelsea's result against Newcastle, managed by former Reds boss Rafael Benitez. However, the player confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that he would not be available to travel to Russian Federation.

Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal spoke about facing Liverpool goal-machine Mohamed Salah and Liverpool in the Champions League final clash in Kiev on May 26th.

It's the news no Liverpool fan wanted to hear.

Harry Kane

However, Liverpool have now revealed that following successful surgery on his ankle, the 20-year-old has been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign.

It's also being reported that Gomez sacrificed himself for the team by playing through the pain barrier during games against West Brom and Stoke City recently.

Gomez was poor in both games but now that it all makes sense, Kopites feel very sorry for him and are wishing him a speedy recovery.

A confirmation by Liverpool on its website reads: "Liverpool can confirm Joe Gomez has undergone an operation on an ankle injury".

Everyone gets excited by these kind of games - everyone wants to be there to support the team and cheer them on to win another European Cup - and continue this great run we're in and which we have always enjoyed [in this competition].
