Metro Exodus Has Been Officially Delayed to 2019

Metro Exodus Delayed For PS4, Xbox One, PC

Metro Exodus, which first appeared on stage back at E3 2017, was due out some time in autumn of 2018.

Metro Exodus is the third title in the series which now has been delayed from its previously planned release to Q1 2019. That puts it in the really good sweet spot of January to March, which has been incredibly good for games with arguably less mass market appeal.

It has nothing to do with THQ Nordic, but it does at least have an official release date... of 2021. Publisher deep Silver says the game will be a "sandbox survival experience", with players exploring large, non-linear levels in a story that spans an entire year. Metro Exodus is the third title in the series and has players go on a cross-country journey through post-apocalyptic Russian Federation sometime after the end of World War III. It seems more a business decision than one spurred on by troubled development, which means developers 4A Games just have extra room to polish things up perfectly before release.

Like its predecessors, Metro Exodus is inspired by the novels of Dmitry Glukhovsky.

The news comes as the publisher revealed its latest financial results, which also failed to provide release dates for Darksiders 3 and Biomutant.

Metro Exodus will now launch on PS4, Xbox One and PC in early 2019. Revenue for the quarter came in at $72 million, while earnings were $12.2 million, a jump of 236% compared to the same period past year.

Exodus follows the events of Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light.

Excluding the contribution from Koch Media, net sales for the parent company was up 64% while earnings were up 54%.
