Top 5 Details from the Harvey Weinstein Criminal Complaint

Rose McGowan

Former "Sopranos" actress Annabella Sciorra, who has said she was sexually assaulted by Weinstein in the 1990s, tweeted "Can't Wait!" followed by "Anyone know where I can get front row seats?"

Weinstein's spokesman Juda Engelmayer and his lawyer Benjamin Brafman both declined to comment to Reuters on Thursday on the imminent charges.

According to the New York Times, the criminal sex charge stems from a complaint filed by Lucia Evans, an aspiring actress, who said Weinstein forced her to perform oral sex on him at his office in 2004.

"We are relieved and grateful that justice is coming, but we also mourn the cases where it didn't", Evans's lawyer, Carrie Goldberg, said in a statement to The Associated Press.

Weinstein has repeatedly denied any instance of nonconsensual sex, though this is the first time formal charges have been handed down. We were young women who were assaulted by Weinstein and later terrorized by his vast network of complicity.

The former film mogul's attorney, Ben Brafman, takes questions after Harvey Weinstein was released on bail.

"Mr. Weinstein has always maintained that he has never engaged in non-consensual behavior with anyone".

Tarana Burke, the founder of the wider #MeToo movement triggered by accusations against Weinstein, told Hollywood trade publication Variety that the expected charges represent a shift in the movement to change how sexual violence is handled. There, a judge set bail at $1 million cash or $10 million bond and assigned Weinstein to wear a monitoring device that he must pay for himself. "Harvey Weinstein shattered the lives of an untold number of women".

Weinstein arrived at a NY police precinct holding Richard Schickel's biography of the late stage and film director Elia Kazan and Todd Purdum's Something Wonderful: Rodgers and Hammerstein's Broadway Revolution.

The Kazan biography is particularly on-the-nose for the voracious reader. Later, in a courthouse booking area, he complained he felt faint and his handcuffs were too tight. The most serious rape charge carries a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.

Reiman, author of several books on the art of body language, including The Power Of Body Language, thought that among the more fascinating moments of the morning was Weinstein's court hearing.

After getting a standing ovation from Kelly's studio crowd, McGowan, who was one of Weinstein's earliest, best known accusers, described her morning as "surreal" adding, "It's real".

Prosecutors charged him with two counts of rape and one count of a criminal sexual act following a months-long investigation with the New York Police Department.

Until the scandal, Weinstein was among the most influential forces in American film.

Miramax, the company he founded with his brother, Bob, helped reinvent independent film, with hits like "Pulp Fiction" and "Shakespeare in Love". He sought treatment for sex addiction at a facility in Scottsdale, Arizona, the New York Times reported.

Vance made the decision even though he had a covert police recording of Weinstein telling Gutierrez he would not do it again.
