J.R. Smith explains his actions in Game 1

NBA: Warriors and Cavaliers set to do battle again in Finals

But with the outcome not in doubt, Cleveland's Tristan Thompson made a flagrant foul on a last-second shot and was taunted by Draymond Green, who had the ball shoved in his face for his trouble as teammates kept them apart.

While Thompson walked in the vicinity of Draymond Green, the Warriors' brash forward began clapping and taunting Thompson.

The NBA fined Thompson $25,000 for failing to leave the court in a timely fashion and for his interaction with Green but downgraded the foul to a flagrant 1. But the league determined he didn't warrant a suspension because he returned to the bench immediately.

I just moved from the Bay Area to OH and I can say that fans from both areas seem to have mild enthusiasm for this series, with the expectation that this might get to a fifth game.

"You don't like to see the chippiness".

"I knew it was tied", Smith insisted afterward. But this is LeBron James, that's who he is. But officials went to the replay to see if James was in the restricted area, which would make it a block.

Upon review, it did look like a blocking foul on LeBron (although in real time it was one of those bang-bang National Basketball Association plays that can be called either way).

Regardless whether or not Smith knew the score, NBA TV's Grant Hill described the event as a "mental meltdown", but also believes that Hill should be held accountable as well for not making his free throws.

Golden State got a serious scare when Thompson went down after Smith slid hard into the Splash Brother's left leg at the 6:17 mark of the first quarter.

Smith dribbled the ball as time expired, forcing the game to go into overtime and leaving many people confused by his decision to let the clock expire when he had an opportunity to win the game.

Coach Tyronn Lue said after the game that Smith though the Cavs were ahead, although Smith said he knew the game was tied and was waiting for a timeout to be called. "If there is a shot clock differential, we're going to take a shot".

Using data from the reseller TicketCity, Forbes reported that the most expensive 2018 NBA Finals tickets for courtside seats ranged from $15,896 (for Game 7) up to a whopping $76,956 (Game 2).

Cavs guard J.R. Smith is defended by Golden State guard Stephen Curry. "So he's definitely going to start again". We just came up short. Durant has been even better in the NBA Finals, with his 32.9 points per game ranking last year's finals MVP behind only Rick Barry (36.3) and Jordan (33.6) among players who have appeared in at least 10 games. "If he had tried to put a layup up, I thought I had a good chance to contest it". I knew I was outside the charge line, and I knew I took the hit.

"I hope so", Lue said with a laugh. A lot of teams counted us out. But we're concerned with how our game plan is going to be executed and what we have to do to limit them on the offensive glass.
