North Korea leader Kim's cargo plane bound for Singapore

President Trump believes he will be able to predict the outcome of his upcoming summit with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un within one minute of meeting the leader, he told reporters on after departing the G7 summit on Saturday.

"I feel that Kim Jong Un wants to do something great for his people and he has that opportunity".

But as Trump said that, he was hosting Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who had traveled from Tokyo to prepare for the North Korea summit.

April's display may have been more a show for live television.

It has since been reconfirmed and with days ago the United States president has returned to his fire-and-fury rhetoric. Both governments had their respective victories, but Kim was the bigger victor.

More news: Singapore declares 'special event area' for Trump-Kim summit

There was no indication Rodman would be involved in any official talks at Tuesday's summit in Singapore.

It was not clear if he had shipped over the bulletproof and fireproof limousine that became a point of interest when Kim was shown being driven across the border between the Koreas during his first summit with the South Korean president, Moon Jae-in, in April, with a dozen bodyguards encircling the vehicle.

According to the U.S. president, who earlier this week said that he "didn't have to prepare very much" for the meeting other than ready himself to "get things done", much will hinge on Kim's character and openness to genuine negotiation. There's a good chance it won't work out.

This would further reinforce the softer image Kim Jong Un has enjoyed in South Korea after the inter-Korean summit.

Other security personnel were spotted using equipment to sweep the room for explosives or recording devices. North Korea has previously used the term to demand the US pull thousands of troops out of South Korea and end its so-called "nuclear umbrella" agreement to protect South Korea, which lacks nukes. More importantly, China, which accounts for 90 per cent of North Korea's trade, has signalled it will no longer vigorously enforce sanctions against Pyongyang as a reward for Kim's outreach. While the United States has not lifted any of its sanctions, Trump has said he will not add any new sanctions before the summit.

The southern resort island of Sentosa, where the summit will be held, has been added to the list of special event areas by the Singaporean government during the week of the summit.

A peace treaty, which is a legal agreement between sovereign states, could also cause problems for South Korea, whose constitution doesn't recognize the North as a legitimate government and remains dedicated to the unification of the peninsula under Seoul's rule.
