Norwegian politicians nominate Donald Trump for Nobel Peace Prize

U.S. President Donald Trump arrives at Andrews Air Force Base after a summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore Wednesday

President Trump has been nominated by two Norwegian lawmakers for the Nobel Peace Prize following his summit with North Korea's Kim Jong Un, according to a report Wednesday.

Per-Willy Amundsen and Christian Tybring-Gjedde said Mr Trump took a "huge and important step" towards peace in the Korean Peninsular.

A group of US lawmakers nominated Trump for the prize earlier this year, before the summit had taken place (and before it was canceled, then reinstated).

The allegations include irregular support for Mr Trump's 2016 presidential campaign.

"I was proud to sign the letter supporting @realDonaldTrump for the Nobel Peace Prize", Bryant wrote in a tweet in May.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in spoke to President Donald Trump on Tuesday to exchange views on the outcome of the U.S.

In May, 18 Republican members of the US Congress formally submitted Mr Trump's name for the Nobel Peace Prize "in recognition of his work to end the Korean war, denuclearise the Korean peninsula and bring peace to the region".

In 2015, Geir Lundestad, who served as the secretary of the Nobel Committee for 25 years beginning in 1990, regretted the decision to give the prize to Mr Obama. "Divisive and irresponsible from a presidential hopeful". Jagland declined to comment on Trump's chances after the summit.

Syse said his writings as a political philosopher and commentator 'should in no way be read as comments pertaining to the prize or to our process in what is a five-person committee'. The remaining two committee members appear not to have written publicly about Trump. This year, it was nominated for a record number of 330 people.

While Trump is getting praise from many sides for his efforts in North Korea, the news coverage by left-leaning media outlets has been heavily critical of his efforts.
