Trump balloon appears before UK visit; embassy warns Americans to keep heads down

From the giant "baby Trump" balloon, to the thousands of protesters who are taking to the streets, the controversy surrounding Donald Trump's visit has been unprecedented for a USA president visiting Britain.

On Thursday, the protesters gathered by a large metal fence sealing off the US ambassador's residence in Regent's Park, where the president will spend his only night in London.

Trump said that one of them, former Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, "would be a great Prime Minister".

Trump told The Sun newspaper that he felt unwelcome in London because of protests, including plans to fly a giant balloon over Parliament on Friday that depicts him as an angry baby in a diaper.

He cast doubts on whether the Prime Minister was delivering what the British people had voted for in the European Union referendum.

British Prime Minister Theresa May and her husband Philip stand together with U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump at the entrance to Blenheim Palace, where they are attending a dinner with specially invited guests and business leaders, near Oxford, Britain, July 12, 2018.

The Sun said its interview with Trump was conducted in Brussels, where the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit was held earlier in the week.

Trump has frequently angered British politicians.

On Friday, he will hold talks with May expected to focus on Brexit and Russian Federation, at the prime minister's Chequers country residence followed by a press conference.

He is to have tea with the queen at Windsor Castle on Friday, hold a tete-a-tete with May at the prime minister's official country home, Chequers, and then depart for Scotland, apparently to play golf at the Trump resort in Turnberry.
