Elon Musk making "kid-sized submarine" to rescue teens in Thailand cave

A row of new Tesla Model 3 electric vehicles is seen at a parking lot in Richmond California

Tesla CEO Elon Musk is sending a team of engineers to Thailand to help emergency crews rescue a group of youth soccer players who have been trapped deep in a cave for almost two weeks.

Twelve boys and their coach, who had been missing since last month, were found by a pair of British cave divers late Monday. Of course it's not the first time that he's offered help on Twitter, using the expertise of SpaceX and Tesla.

Musk then started brainstorming ideas to help via tweet.

Gen Weerachon said the team sent by Mr Musk, best known for electric cars, batteries and tunnelling technology, might provide help such as trying to drill a tunnel to save the group. He claims that two divers will be able to carry the creation, and its size will allow it to fit through narrow gaps to navigate the cave system.

"Also building an inflatable tube with airlocks".

"SpaceX (and) Boring Co. engineers headed to Thailand tomorrow to see if we can be helpful to (the government)", he tweeted.

The Boring Company is an infrastructure and tunnel construction company, while SpaceX is Musk's aerospace venture. But while that does give Musk and his team a bit more time to finalize the rescue submarine and quickly bring it to Thailand, time and the weather are not on anyone's side at the moment. "Extremely robust", he tweeted Saturday.

Musk hopes his engineers can join the already huge operation being carried out in the Tham Luang Nang Non cave complex, where dozens of Thai Navy SEALs and worldwide experts are attempting to find a way to get the boys out.

The schoolchildren and their 25-year-old coach have been trapped in the Tham Luang cave in Thailand for nearly two weeks now.

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has now offered the aid of engineers from his companies, Space X and the Boring Company, which landed in Chang Rai, Thailand today.

Teams of Thai and global divers have since supplied them with food, oxygen and medical attention, but there are mounting concerns about the oxygen level in the chamber, which officials said had fallen to 15%.
