Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq march into the record books

Sarfraz Ahmed,MS Dhoni,Pakistan vs Zimbabwe

Pakistani opening batsman Fakhar Zaman has become the quickest batsman to score the fastest1000 runs in one-day worldwide (ODI) history.

Earlier, Pakistan who once again won the toss and chose to bat against Zimbabwe in the 5th ODI got to a flawless start as Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq scored 168 runs for the first. The 18 innings taken by him to reach the mark broke the record previously held by the likes of Sir Viv Richards and Babar Azam (21 innings).

In the process though, he became the fastest batsman to reach 1000 runs in the format (18 innings), three fewer than the previous record which was held by five batsmen.

Imam and Zaman continued their prolific run against a weak bowling attack by sharing the fourth century-stand of the series.

Pakistan's young and energetic cricket team added another feather to its cap with a record 7th five-match series clean sweep by beating Zimbabwe 5-0.

The 28-year-old did also claim the records for most runs in a five-match bilateral series with 515 and most runs scored between dismissals in ODIs, having scored 455 runs since he was last dismissed in the first match of the series. Their in-form openers - Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq laid the foundation for a big total by adding 168 runs for the first wicket.

It was a series to remember for the Pakistan opening batsman. He sits behind only Indian captain Virat Kohli, who scored 558 runs earlier this year against South Africa. He is now the first batsman to make four ODI centuries inside his first ten matches.

Fakhar shared a record opening stand of 304 with fellow left-hander Imam ul-Haq, who hit 113 off 122 balls. He has scored 3 tons, including a double century, and 6 half-centuries. But Prince Masvaure and Ryan Murray adopted a similar approach as they were content on batting out the overs, finding the odd boundary whenever a loose delivery was bowled.

The hosts were probably already out of the game once Pakistan put on 364 but they can take comfort from a much- improved batting performance.
