North Korea still making nuclear material: Mike Pompeo

Putin’s Not So Sure He Wants to Meet With Trump in Washington

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's appearance before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee came as the White House postponed a follow-up meeting with Putin amid criticism of Trump's conflicting statements on Russian election interference.

National security adviser John Bolton said Mr Trump now believed his next meeting with Mr Putin should take place "after the Russian Federation witch-hunt is over", a reference to special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation.

The White House says the omission of a key question from the initial version of the official transcript of President Donald Trump's news conference with Vladimir Putin "was by no means malicious".

US President Donald Trump said Monday he had given up "nothing" during his summit with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, following a week of withering, bipartisan criticism over his handling of the meeting.

Many members of Congress had objected to the two leaders meeting again later this year, saying Mr Putin would not be welcome on Capitol Hill.

"A disgrace to America", Trump tweeted Monday. Almost half of respondents - 47 percent - said Trump is guiding the nation's foreign policy toward negative consequences. The groups most likely to say Russian Federation won't do anything are strong Republicans (63 percent), Donald Trump supporters (58 percent), and white evangelical Christians (54 percent).

Trump weathered fierce criticism after his summit last week with Putin in Helsinki after he appeared to give credence to the Russian leader's assertion that Moscow did not interfere in the 2016 usa presidential election.

Trump stunned observers when he invited Putin to visit the United States when the two men met in Helsinki earlier this month.

In the declaration, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called on Russian Federation to "end its occupation of Crimea", and said Moscow had sought to "undermine a bedrock global principle" shared by democratic states, that no country can change the borders of another by force.

Russia's Embassy in Washington has accused US officials of "living in a different reality" after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo reiterated America's rejection of Moscow's annexation of Crimea.

In a "Crimea Declaration" issued shortly before his testimony to a Senate committee, Pompeo restated US policy rejecting the annexation.

Pompeo has played a key role in recent talks between the US and North Korea following Trump's historic summit with Kim in Singapore last month.

Days later, a Microsoft executive said the company had discovered a spear-phishing campaign by Russian military intelligence targeting at least three candidates in this year's elections.

The Trump administration sought to fend off accusations the president is too soft on Russia, putting off a proposed second summit with Russian leader Vladimir Putin and declaring the USA will never recognize Russia's 2014 annexation of Crimea.
