The Atlantic: Against the US, Putin's Russian Federation has an advantage - weakness

Video: Trump on DNC Server

- Putin, who denies that Russia interfered in the 2016 election, or USA intelligence agencies, which have concluded that Russian agents hacked into the Democratic National Committee computer server and released hacked DNC emails to help Trump's election chances.

He said Mr. Trump missed an opportunity to bolster the US intelligence community's case against Russian actors by seeming to trust Mr. Putin, who said he didn't meddle.

"The president either needs to rely on the people that he has chosen to advise him, or those advisers need to re-evaluate whether or not they can serve in this administration", Gowdy said on Fox News Sunday, referring to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley. One source said there was a belief that if Mr Coats had been in Washington instead of Colorado, he would not have been surprised by the news. And I think we're entitled to know.

Under pressure from Congress, which past year passed a tough sanctions law targeting Russia, the US Treasury in April imposed sanctions on Russian officials and oligarchs for election meddling and "malign" activities. Trump appeared to answer "no" to a reporter's question asking whether Russian Federation was still targeting the U.S. While hours later, Press Secretary Sarah Sanders emerged to say Trump had merely tried to put a stop to the questioning by saying "no", although he continued discussing Russian Federation after that.

On Thursday, the White House issued a statement saying Trump "disagrees" with Putin's offer.

Contrasting Putin's background as a former KGB agent who uses "penny-ante spy tactics" with Trump's as a former businessman, Bossert said, "We spend our time trying to have productive meetings with foreign leaders".

"I can tell you this, the president has access to every bit of evidence, even more than those of us who serve on House intel", he said.

But when ABC's Cecilia Vega asked "Is Russia still targeting the US, Mr. President?"

President Donald Trump has said he wants another meeting with Russia's Vladimir Putin to start implementing ideas they discussed in Helsinki.

"So President Obama knew about Russian Federation before the Election", Trump tweeted.

Forty-eight percent of Russians surveyed two days after Putin sat down with Trump at the summit said they expected U.S. -Russia relations to stay the same, while 38 percent said they were optimistic about an improved relationship.

Trump, meanwhile, forged ahead with efforts to portray the Helsinki summit as a triumph, and to impugn the motives and methods of US law enforcement agencies looking into links between his 2016 presidential campaign and Russian Federation as it worked to subvert the election in his favor. "I'm sure he's been on the FBI's radar for a long time, well before 2016".

Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell last week identified the bill as a potential step Congress could take to push back against Russian Federation as Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer called for sanctions and other deterrents.

Despite bipartisan criticism, Mr Trump pointed blame at the media, tweeting: "The Fake News Media wants so badly to see a major confrontation with Russian Federation, even a confrontation that could lead to war".

Rubio, calling Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega an "old man" and his wife, Vice President Rosario Murillo, "crazy", said, "There is no future with them in power". Marco Rubio of Florida, said on CNN's "State of the Union" that he believed the warrants to monitor Page were justified. "There is a direct national security interest for the United States in seeing democracy and stability in Nicaragua".
