The moon will turn blood red in Canberra early on Saturday morning

The eclipse will not be visible from North America

According to the United States space research institute NASA, residents in other parts of Africa and Asia as well those in Europe, Australia, and South America will be able to see a partial lunar eclipse, reported a private tv news channel on Sunday.

Lunar eclipses are visible from anywhere on Earth where it is night time. The eclipse will last one hour and 43 minutes with Africa, the Middle East and southern Asia having the best viewing window, according to AccuWeather.

The full lunar eclipse is expected to last more than 100 minutes and will transform the moon into a reddish-orange color, but the entire event will last more than 6 hours.

A total lunar eclipse occurs when the moon and the sun are on exact opposite sides of Earth, according to NASA.

The Royal Astronomical Society said: 'Sometimes the eclipsed moon is a deep red colour, nearly disappearing from view, and sometimes it can be quite bright.

And if that is not enough excitement, Earth will also be passing between the Sun and Mars on July 27, putting the Red Planet at opposition in our sky, right next to the full moon.

What is a total lunar eclipse? . "If there are extra particles in the atmosphere, from say a recent volcanic eruption, the moon will appear a darker shade of red".

You don't need any kind of special equipment in order to see the Blood Moon 2018 on July 27 as it will be visible from the naked eye. Although there are three partial solar eclipses this year, none are visible in the U.S.

Come Friday and the world is set to behold a spectacle of the rarest of rare variety-the longest solar eclipse of the 21st century.

This is the latest eclipse of the space-housed pair we call our own home (Earth) and our moon. This one will be visible for almost four hours, as the moon passes through the centre of Earth's shadow. "At this time, the moon passes into the shadow of the Earth, blocking the light from the sun". That color is where the term "blood moon" comes from.

The team of astronomers behind the Virtual Telescope will stream the Blood Moon from the Roman Forum on Palatine Hill in Rome, Italy.

The next total eclipse of the moon will be on January 21 next year in the early hours of the morning.

But don't worry, even if you don't manage to find a flawless spot, you'll still be able to get a good view of the red moon as it rises in the sky.

But there is some bad news: If you're in North America, you won't be able to see it yourself (but there will be live video online).
