White House blames Iran over war of words with Trump - Ireland

The Latest: Schumer chides Trump for heated rhetoric on Iran

On Sunday, Iranian president Hassan Rouhani threatened the USA over the "mother of all wars" if the U.S. stuck to their policy of cutting off Iran's oil exports by November.

"If nothing else, Trump's ALL CAPS tirade reflect (s) reality that U.S. has no Iran policy". He also noted that the first round of new US sanctions will begin on August 4, followed by another round on November 4. Still, there has been little tangible progress in a global push to rid North Korea of its nuclear weapons program since the historic Trump-Kim Jong Un summit on June 12.

Iran's President Hassan Rouhani says there's no need to respond to US President Donald Trump's "empty threats". At a time when Iranian citizens are organizing protests and strikes about everything from corruption to drought, Pompeo's message was perfectly timed.

MOTEVALLI: I think most ordinary Iranians are very anxious. But that approach faces an uncertain future now that Washington has withdrawn from the nuclear deal with Iran, and quickly moved to use its tremendous economic leverage to pressure all other nations to stop importing Iranian oil, the life-blood of the Iranian economy.

He worries about the influence of an Iranian exile group that advocates the overthrow of the Iranian government and was included on the US terrorist list until 2012. He's author of the book, The Iranian Constitutional Revolution and the Clerical Leadership of Khurasani.

The United States had harsh words for Iran, first in a speech by U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, followed by a late-night tweet by U.S. President Donald Trump, who in no uncertain terms made it clear to Tehran that it should not threaten America - now or in the future.

"The reality is he's such an erratic President that you could see him dropping bombs on Iran or you could see him trying to build hotels in Iran", said Karim Sadjadpour, an Iran expert at the Carnegie Endowment.

"America wants nothing less than [to] destroy Iran" but "Trump can not do a damn thing against Iran", the commander added. Trump said in May that he was withdrawing from the agreement signed by the Barack Obama administration.

That could potentially escalate the very situation the nuclear deal sought to avoid - an Iran with a stockpile of enriched uranium that could lead to making atomic bombs.
