Alisson to make Liverpool debut in Napoli friendly, says Klopp

Alisson Becker

Alisson got a massive cheer from the Liverpool supporters every time he touched the ball, a reaction that conveyed just how desperate they were for a top-class goalkeeper, and exasperated they had become by years of sub-standard players in the position.

Alisson started training with the Reds earlier this week following a break after the World Cup and is now set to take his bow this weekend.

Nathaniel Clyne is back in contention after returning to training following the birth of his child, with Naby Keita and Gini Wijnaldum recovering from minor injuries that forced them out of the last game.

After the match in Dublin, Liverpool will host a final friendly at Anfield against Torino on August 7 before getting their Premier League season underway at home against West Ham on August 12.

Here's how to watch Liverpool vs. Napoli in their pre-season friendly on Saturday evening (6pm BST), live online and on TV around the world.

Liverpool took the lead after four minutes with a smart shot from James Milner before Georginio Wijnaldum put them two up shortly after.

The interplay between the front-three was also impressive.

With both sides throwing on substitutes in the second half, the game lost its rhythm, but Liverpool's superiority was unmistakable before Sturridge added a fourth, and Alberto Moreno a fifth with a vicious strike.

And Virgil Van Dijk made sure to show his appreciation to Alisson for starting off the move.

Liverpool look ready for the start of the season.

Liverpool released an official statement announcing Alisson's "provisional" number, and confirmed that the goalkeeper will be assigned an official number in due course.

Klopp is understood to be impressed by the alertness and sharpness Alisson displayed in his first training session and the keeper has also left an impression on his team-mates after pulling off a terrific save to deny Marko Grujic a goal.
