Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, who has vehemently denied the allegations against her, was reunited with family members - including her four-year-old daughter - after being freed from the capital's Evin Prison.

"Nazanin was released from Evin prison on furlough this morning".

A gaffe by Hunt's predecessor, Boris Johnson, in the British parliament in September led Iranian authorities to claim he had confirmed that Zaghari-Ratcliffe - who was on holiday in Iran to introduce her baby daughter to her parents - had trained journalists while in the country. "I felt so overwhelmed", she said of the reunion, according to a statement released by the Free Nazanin campaign, which is run by her husband.

Britain's foreign minister Jeremy Hunt welcomed what he said on Twitter was "really good news", and said Britain would push for a permanent release.

'This was a very happy surprise after a number of false dawns recently, which had been increasingly unsettling'. She has friends in both Iran and the United Kingdom and frankly every day that she is in prison is a reminder to the whole world of a gross injustice.

Mrs Zaghari-Ratcliffe was arrested in April 2016 at the airport in Tehran after visiting her family with her young daughter.

During the hearing, she was reportedly warned of an additional conviction and an extended jail sentence. Although Johnson later corrected himself, Iranian state television highlighted his comments as justification for imprisoning her.

Ratcliffe and his supporters have held multiple protests and vigils in London to seek her release, attracting celebrity support from the likes of Oscar-winning actress Emma Thompson.

Mr Ratcliffe said: "It's great for Nazanin today to be seeing all the news attention and realise how much care there is out there".

Zaghari-Ratcliffe was warned not to attempt to leave the country while on temporary release, or conduct interviews with local or worldwide media, it added.

The British-Iranian citizen has been detained by Iranian authorities since 2016 for allegedly seeking to overthrow the government. She called me on Skype and I got to see her for the first time in two-years.

"I didn't tell Gabriella or for a long time my mum - so if it didn't happen I would be the only one to suffer".

He said on Friday: "Her lawyer is very confident that it will be extended".
