China slams Trump’s ‘absurd logic’ on North Korea

North Korea will reportedly host its own cryptocurrency and blockchain conference

This summer, the Japanese concealed a meeting they held with North Korea from senior US officials, according to people familiar with the matter.

"President Donald J Trump feels strongly that North Korea is under tremendous pressure from China because of our major trade disputes with the Chinese Government", the first of four tweets on the subjects read.

"This includes suspending Freedom Guardian along with two Korean Marine Exchange Program training exercises scheduled to occur in the next three months", DoD said in a statement.

US Forces Japan told CBN News it's "not aware of the drills" mentioned in North Korean media reports.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in on Thursday (Aug 30) nominated the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff as defence minister.

He also vowed: 'If he does, they will be far bigger than ever before'.

Defense Secretary James Mattis says exercises are ongoing as Pyongyang threatens to resume missile tests; national security correspondent Jennifer Griffin reports on the fallout from the canceled US visit to North Korea.

Trump caught many American military planners off guard when he announced after his June 12 summit with Kim Jong Un that the United States was suspending this summer's drills with South Korea.

Pompeo said Tuesday that Washington remains ready to engage "when it is clear that Chairman Kim stands ready to deliver on the commitments that he made at the Singapore summit to President Trump to completely denuclearise North Korea".

Mattis' comments on the drills come at a delicate time for negotiations between the United States and North Korea after Trump scrapped plans for a meeting between top officials from both countries. "We will work very closely with [Secretary of State Mike Pompeo] and what he needs done, we will certainly do to reinforce his effort". On Wednesday the president accused Beijing of pressuring the North because of current tensions in U.S. But beyond returning the potential remains of about 55 USA troops missing from the Korean War, and its continuing suspension in its missile and nuclear tests, there has been little movement from the North.

On Tuesday, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said the Pentagon is coordinating with officials at the State Department to monitor how future negotiations with North Korea transpire.

The next large-scale exercises on the schedule are the annual Key Resolve and Foal Eagle, massive simultaneous joint U.S.

North Korea appears to have tried to mine cryptocurrencies on a small scale.

But beyond returning the apparent remains of about 55 United States troops missing since the Korean War, and its continuing suspension in its missile and nuclear tests, there has been little movement from the North.

The gesture was not enough for North Korea to agree to unilaterally give up its weapons.

But in his tweets, Mr Trump also signalled that the U.S. has its own military means of exerting pressure on Pyongyang. Citing "recent interviews with North Korean defectors", the report claims that "all of them replied that they don't know about cryptocurrencies in the North".
