Jurgen Klopp dismisses Liverpool’s defensive worries ahead of new season

Jurgen Klopp led Liverpool to last season's Champions League final

Liverpool concluded an impressive pre-season by cruising to a 3-1 win over Torino on Tuesday.

Although new goalkeeper Alisson started the game in goal, he was replaced by Loris Karius in the closing stages.

Jurgen Klopp says he has "no idea" what will happen regarding potential Liverpool incomings or outgoings in the final few days of the transfer window.

Liverpool's Premier League campaign begins on Sunday at Anfield, where they host West Ham at 1.30pm.

The Reds will go into their fixture against the Serie A side at Anfield with Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez as their only two fit senior centre halves, with Ragnar Klavan, Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip all struggling with minor knocks. But the 21-year-old missed the match with a tight muscle and is a doubt for the weekend.

Like City, Liverpool's strength is in the final third and the trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, will strike fear into Premier League defences again.

Liverpool, however, beat City three times last season - twice in the two-legged Champions League quarter-final, and their moves in the transfer market should make them serious contenders.

Liverpool FC signed Brazil global Fabinho in a £39m deal from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco at the start of the transfer window. Salah's driving run across the box teed the striker up for a shot which found the top corner via a deflection.

Klopp has an nearly irreplaceable front three at his disposal at Liverpool, but should one of them suffer an injury or receive a suspension, the German has little in reserve apart from Ings and Danirl Sturridge.

The visitors rarely threatened but pulled a goal back through Andrea Belotti's powerful close-range header.

"He was very comfortable on the ball five minutes in and it meant we could show for it and he was starting most of our play, so it was a very good performance from him, but overall the squad performed very well today". The important business comes next.
