Manchester United's move for Barcelona's Yerry Mina cancelled

The defender impressed at the World Cup

With the new Premier League season kicking off on Friday Manchester United are still unsure whether they'll have the services of Paul Pogba.

Worryingly for United, who slumped to a 1-0 defeat on Sunday against Bayern Munich in their last pre-season loosener, the Manchester Evening News reports that Barca boss Ernesto Valverde "refused to rule out a move" for Pogba when quizzed by Spanish journalists.

Alderweirald had a curtailed season previous year with the Spurs due to injury, but was very impressive in the World Cup which led to the rumours of his departure.

"Alderweireld could come back into the situation if Tottenham reduce their asking price for the player and Alderweireld reduces his wage demands", Castles told the Transfer Window podcast.

United have been looking for a top centre half for most of the summer - with the Belgian always seeming like their top target - and have finally now managed to bring Spurs down from their initial £75m valuation of the player.

After negotiations now, there has been a breakthrough between the two clubs.

As one door closes another one opens for Mourinho though as Toby Alderweireld is set to join the Manchester United squad in a £60m move from Tottenham, according to The Mirror.

The Old Trafford unit believe that they will get their target inside the next 48 hours.

There is a belief among United staff though that a bid for the 25-year old should have gone in before his impressive World Cup campaign with England. Although he will have to fight for a place given United's resources in central defence.
