Amazon reportedly plans to roll out more Alexa-enabled hardware

Amazon plans to release at least 8 new Alexa devices, including a microwave oven and in-car gadget

Alexa and the Google Assistant now power hardware in different product categories such as smart displays. Sonos already has an amplifier and subwoofer that works with Alexa, while GE has a smart microwave that can be connected to and controlled with Alexa.

What the "in-car gadget" wasn't described, but the report noted that Garmin Ltd. now offers an Alexa-enabled dash cam. If true, this could also mark Amazon's debut in the home appliance market, something Apple and Google are yet to make inroads.

The upcoming product roster includes home entertainment gear like an amplifier, a receiver, and a subwoofer.

It's believed Amazon will unveil a few of these Alexa-powered devices at an event later this month. This cute little device is like a combination white noise machine, personal assistant, and stereo, plus it's fully compatible with Amazon Alexa. But what Amazon's virtual assistant reportedly lacks in accent comprehension and overall IQ, it now makes up for in "visual style".

The internet giant is mulling the launch of eight new devices that can be controlled just by using your voice and its digital assistant technology, Alexa. Sonos has a similar business model. Earlier this year, it partnered with home builder Lennar to include two Echo speakers in certain new homes and provide visits by Amazon technicians. "There are now tens of thousands of developers across more than 150 countries building new devices using the Alexa Voice Service, and the number of Alexa-enabled devices has more than tripled in the past year". All of them will be Alexa-enabled, however, some of them will have Alexa inbuilt, says the report. In the case of the former, it could potentially bring smart functionality to older cars, delivering traffic information, music playback and more. Enter your email to be subscribed to our newsletter.
