Bryson DeChambeau wins Dell, Hideki Matsuyama cards 65 to finish 4th

Tiger Woods- Tiger Woods poised for return from Ryder Cup wilderness as USA captain Jim Furyk prepares to name wildcards

DeChambeau locked in his place after registering back-to-back wins at the Northern Trust and the Dell Technologies Championship, while Ryder Cup stalwart Mickelson will make his 12th consecutive appearance for Team USA.

DeChambeau's win in MA makes him the second player - after Vijay Singh in 2008 to win the first two legs of the FedEx Cup play-offs.

He has yet to win since making his comeback but was in contention at both the Open Championship and the PGA Championship while Phil Mickelson also won his first PGA Tour event since 2013 at the WGC-Mexico Championship in May.

"This is mostly likely my last chance to go over to Europe and to be a part of a winning USA team in Europe".

"I haven't been part of the team playing-wise for six years", Woods said. The event is the one being removed as the FedEx Cup playoffs are shortened from four events to three.

Captain Thomas Bjorn will make four at-large selections Wednesday, and it promises to be a tough decision with the likes of Ian Poulter, Paul Casey, Henrik Stenson, Sergio Garcia, Rafael Cabrera Bello, Thomas Pieters and Denmark victor Matt Wallace all under consideration. He fired a four-under 67 on Monday to win by two shots at 16 under.

Starting the day one shot behind overnight leader Abraham Ancer, DeChambeau soon got his nose in front thanks to two early birdies, and although Hideki Matsuyama, Rafa Cabrera Bello and Rory McIlroy briefly challenged his position, further birdies at seven, eight and nine saw him stretch things out. The race was trimmed to 70 following Monday's results, and will be narrowed to 30 after the BMW Championship.

A few others also were happy to have another week left in a long season. Furyk makes his fourth selection after the BMW Championship.

However Woods' form since his return to golf this year prompted Furyk to award him one of the four captain's picks set aside for players who did not qualify automatically for the team. Finau tied a PGA Championship record with 10 birdies in the second round while playing with Furyk. Woods closed with a 71 and tied for 24th.

Five-time major victor Phil Mickelson is also hotly tipped to be included for what would be a record 12th Ryder Cup - England's Nick Faldo is the only other player to compete in 11. Justin Rose shot 65 and briefly pressured the victor before finishing tied for second with Rickie Fowler. "Not one round. But it certainly doesn't hurt".
