Linda McMahon Denies Authoring NY Times Op-Ed About Trump

Trump fires back at Bob Woodward book with statements from James Mattis and John Kelly

Fox News host Sean Hannity called the author of the op-ed a "swamp sewer creature who can't stand that there is a new sheriff in town".

Is the anonymous author of a New York Times Trump Op-Ed a traitor or a patriot?

First lady Melania Trump on Thursday echoed her husband's criticism of an anonymously penned New York Times op-ed critical of President Donald Trump, accusing the unnamed Trump administration official who wrote it of "cowardly actions".

He said that the Times should publish the person's name for the sake of national security and that un-elected, deep state operatives are a threat to democracy.

Since it was released, the op-ed has sparked a parlor guessing game about its author's identity that perhaps hasn't been seen in Washington D.C. since Joe Klein wrote Primary Colors.

Scott Dworkin, a Democratic strategist and fundraiser, and frequent MSNBC contributor, said on Twitter that a lobbyist from the other side of the aisle reported Trump's plan to use a lie detector test on staff members to determine who wrote the op-ed.

Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue said through a spokesman that he was not the author, as did Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Andrew Wheeler and Huntsman, also through representatives.

The article had referred to the anonymous author as only a senior administration official. The op-ed reinforced the book's disturbing portrait of a vain, venal, volatile man who has a vague relationship with the truth in a nation's capital that has become "crazytown".

As you can imagine, more people are reading The Jerusalem Post than ever before.

"We considered using the process spelled out in the constitution but decided that would be too messy and opted for trying a slow-motion coup instead, but then we chose to undermine that by going public about it anonymously". The vice president did so too.

"These are individuals who don't support the president's agenda, the agenda of lower taxes, less regulation. less government bureaucracy, an agenda he put forth to the American people during his campaign and two years later he is fulfilling", Lewandoski pressed on only to have Berman push back.

Trump had condemned the op-ed nearly as soon as it was published, in person and on Twitter. His deputy chief of staff said Pence's office is "above such amateur acts".

Mike Pompeo, speaking from Delhi, addressed the matter directly.

"There's nothing in the piece that strikes me as being relevant to or undermining the national security", Dao said.

A former Central Intelligence Agency director, John Brennan, who has been strongly critical of Mr Trump, called the article "active insubordination" although he said it was "born out of loyalty to the country".

"The dilemma - which he does not fully grasp - is that numerous senior officials in his own administration are working diligently from within to frustrate parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations". That led the president to declare the op-ed amounted to treason.

"The Deep State and the Left, and their vehicle, the Fake News Media, are going Crazy", Mr Trump tweeted.
