Obama campaigns in California urging voters to 'restore' sanity in politics

Former president Barack Obama

"Truly the American other folks in 2016 rejected the protection and course of Barack Obama after they elected President Donald Trump", he acknowledged.Pence used to be moreover pressed on Trump's push for the Justice Department to examine the id of an anonymous Recent York Times op-ed penned by a senior administration agreeable who claimed officers are working to undermine Trump. "He is just capitalizing on resentment that politicians have been fanning for years", he said.

During a speech at the University of IL at Urbana-Champaign on Friday, Obama said the country is in a "backlash" moment.

Like much of the country, unemployment is low in Orange County and the economy is strong, meaning turnout could be more dependent on anger about Trump and his policies rather than dissatisfaction with the state of the nation.

Obama did not mention Trump on Saturday and instead said the problems in Washington are bigger than one person.

"I am totally sure these applicants will win", Obama said to a cheering group at the Anaheim Convention Center, encompassed by a pack of congressional hopefuls.

The former U.S. president has been back on the campaign trail as he bids to help fellow Democrats regain control of the House in November.

"It's radical. It's a vision that says the protection of our power and those who back us is all that matters even when it hurts the country".

He told the students in the audience: "You need to vote because our democracy depends on it".

But on Saturday, he said Democrats have a chance to woo independents and Republicans unhappy with the direction of the party.

Obama gave shout-outs to seven Democratic candidates in competitive House districts across California that are considered crucial to the party's efforts to oust Republicans from control.

"Don't tell me your vote doesn't matter", he said in IL.

Mike Levin, who is running against Republican Diane Harkey for the 49th Congressional District seat being vacated by Republican Darrell Issa, paid tribute to the former president last month after receiving his endorsement.

He went on to attack Trump by name. "I found he's very good - very good for sleeping", he said.

"They're not doing us a service by actively promoting 90 percent of the insane stuff that's coming out of this White House, and then saying, 'Don't worry, we're preventing the other 10 percent, '" he said.

Obama urged the Democrats at his first rally of 2018 to get out and vote in November, telling them that the dismay they feel about Washington right now means nothing is they don't follow through by voicing their displeasure at the ballot box.

The only thing they have to do, Obama said, is "show up".

Some said they didn't mind that Obama took a softer approach.

While voters in California stepped it up for Clinton in the 2016 presidential elections, giving her a 4 million vote edge over Trump, Orange County has remained steadfastly Republican.

Mr Obama is expected to deliver a similar message in another campaign speech in Cleveland on Thursday.
