Queens! Seven snaps of Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka

039;There is an incredible tension around Serena Williams'- Annabel Croft

Newly-crowned US Open champion Novak Djokovic has refused to take sides in the much-talked-about altercation involving Serena Williams and chair umpire Carlos Ramos in the women's singles final on Saturday.

The umpire initially handed Williams a coaching violation before docking her a point, and after the 36-year-old labelled Ramos a "thief", he docked her a game in a dramatic second set.

"King tweeted, When a woman is emotional, she's "hysterical" and she's penalized for it". Ramos has not spoken publicly about Saturday's match in which Williams accused him of being "a thief" and also accused him of sexism for dealing with her more harshly than he would have a male player in the same circumstances.

Williams claims that didn't know her coach was giving her instructions during the US Open Final, adding that she did not see it and that she had "never cheated in her life".

Osaka's mother Tamaki became estranged from her conservative Japanese family when it was found out that she was dating Mr Francois, a foreigner and a black man.

However, Richard Ings, a former professional chair umpire who also used to be the ATP Tour Executive Vice-President, Rules and Competition, felt it was Williams who needed to apologise.

"Had I behaved like that on a tennis court, I would have expected to get everything that happened to Serena", said Martina Navratilova, who won 18 Grand Slam singles titles and a record nine Wimbledon titles, and has been a longtime advocate for equality in the sport". We're gonna get through this, and let's be positive.

Those views were shared by BBC tennis presenter Sue Barker, who said: "I've sat courtside watching the men ranting at umpires and they haven't been given a violation".

While the debate over Serena Williams's behaviour during the women's final of the US Open continues, touching images of the tennis star and Naomi Osaka have flooded the net.

Her only previous final was in September 2016, when she went down 7-5 6-3 to Caroline Wozniacki in the Pan Pacific Open.

"We do not believe that this was done last night".

WTA chief Steve Simon, as well as United States Tennis Association president Katrina Adams, echoed the same emotions accusing the Portuguese umpire of treating women differently. "I just want to say thank you for watching the match".

After serving out the match, Osaka showed her softer side, bursting into tears as boos rang out from fans still outraged over her opponent's bust-up with Ramos.

"There are umpires who sometimes put more pressure than others, and you have to accept this", Nadal said after that match. It's hard to generalise things, really.

Williams was fined $17,000 (£13,100) for the code violations that included calling Ramos a "liar" and "thief".
