Dismal Aussies whitewashed in T20 series

Babar Azam hit his second half-century of the series as Pakistan defeated Australia by 33 runs in Dubai to complete a 3-0 T20I whitewash.

Australia are playing for pride after losing the first two T20 matches in this three-match series, but they will take some positives from the defeat on Friday where Glenn Maxwell's heroics saw them come within 11 runs of the Pakistan total of 147/6. The series result means Pakistan can not be displaced from the top spot irrespective of the outcome of their upcoming series against New Zealand as well as the one between India and the Windies.

The bowling unit was solid once again and Coulter-Nile along with the two spinners did especially well to haul their team back into the game after Pakistan made a reasonably good start so they will aim to produce more of the same here with Ashton Agar possibly coming back in for another spin option.

Pakistan veteran Mohammad Hafeez batted well at the tail end of the innings alongside the lower order to finish unbeaten on 32 off 20 balls (three fours, one six) as he shepherded the home team to 150-5 off their 20 overs. From this series, Babar earned 79 points while Finch conceded 52 points.

Australia brought in off-spinner Nathan Lyon in place of seamer Billy Stanlake.

Recalled spinner Nathan Lyon claimed his first ever T20 worldwide wicket when Farhan sliced to Tye at long off, cutting short an innings in which he struck three sixes.

While the Australian bowlers performed well, it was their batting which let them down as they fell short by a huge margin of 66 runs in the first match.

Sarfraz Ahmed says leading Pakistan has been a matter of pride. However, this result will help New Zealand move ahead of England and Australia in the third position.

Australia ended their tour of UAE without winning a single T20, whitewashed for the first time by Pakistan in any format, with the series ending 3-0. In this scenario, the reigning ICC Men's World T20 champions will jump from 106 points to fifth on 114 points.
