Multiple people shot inside a Kentucky Kroger

Kroger shooting in Kentucky 2 dead 1 in custody

The man who walked into a grocery store in Louisville, Kentucky and allegedly shot dead one man inside and one woman outside, has been arrested.

At a news conference Thursday, Rogers did say surveillance video shows the suspect tried unsuccessfully to enter the First Baptist church in Jeffersontown before he went to the Kroger.

According to WHAS in Louisville, that man is 51-year-old Gregory Alan Bush.

He is being charged with murder and wanton endangerment.

The two people killed Wednesday - Maurice Stallard and Vickie Jones - were shot in the grocery store and the parking lot, respectively.

Rogers said the suspect then shot a woman multiple times out in the parking lot at about 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

An arrest citation said Bush's parents were punched and choked, and they told police they were "terrified of [his] unpredictable behaviour". Meanwhile, a dispatcher with the police department said a suspect was detained following the shooting.

Moments later, he claimed that a man walked through the parking lot holding a gun by his side, when he pleaded with Harrell not to shoot him.

Bush also exchanged gunfire with an armed customer before the police apprehended him. Stallard was the father of Kellie Watson, the chief equity officer for the administration of Mayor Greg Fischer, tasked with improving racial equity within city government's policies and practices.

"I can't speculate on motive at this time", he said.

"There may be questions about mental illness, and there can be no doubt that we must do whatever is needed to get people all of the health care that they need", said Fischer.

U.S. Attorney Russell Coleman in Louisville said Friday that federal investigators are examining if there were any violations of federal law, "which includes potential civil rights violations such as hate crimes". He said he saw a woman in her mid-50s or early 60s get hit as he was calling 911, and he ran to help her.

Eric Deacon, who identified himself as an emergency medical technician, told The Associated Press that he was in the store's self-checkout lane when he heard the first shot, in the pharmacy area.

I am heartbroken by this shameful and horrifying incident, and I am angry about the tragedy that results from people with guns who have no respect for human life. A 2009 domestic violence conviction should have prevented him from legally possessing a firearm, WDRB reported.
