Paul Ryan says "you can not end birthright citizenship with an executive order"

President Donald Trump said he will change federal law to remove citizenship for babies born inside the United States to non-U.S. citizens.

The Times noted that the the majority of legal scholars agree that Trump can not legally do away with birthright citizenship.

In their crusade against President Trump, globalists trot out alleged experts claiming that Trump's proposal is impossible, unconstitutional, or morally wrong.

In an interview with Axios, the president said he plans to issue an executive order challenging how the 14th Amendment is applied to children of undocumented immigrants in the United States.

Mr. Trump told online political outlet Axios in an interview released Tuesday that he will pursue an executive order on birthright citizenship.

The 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution passed in 1868, giving citizenship to newly freed slaves after the Civil War.

Trump received a lot of pushback from lawmakers on both sides after making the comments, but Pelosi said it gave her party a big boost of optimism leading into next week's midterms. The host pointed out that this is in dispute.

Trump did not say when he would sign the order, and some of his past promises to use executive action have gone unfulfilled.

In an interview with Axios, Trump said he intends to restrict birthright citizenship despite those who argue the 14th Amendment guarantees citizenship to all babies born in the United States.

In the 1898 ruling United States v. Wong Kim Ark-a US -born son of Chinese parents who was barred by USA authorities from returning to the country after a visit to China-the court affirmed that USA jurisdiction extended to USA -born children of foreign-born parents. "But, I'm a believer in the Constitution, I believe in interpreting the Constitution as it's written, and that means you can't do something like this via executive order".

The ACLU was also bitterly opposed to Trump's policy of vetting travelers from countries that are hotbeds of terrorism.

But most scholars on the left and right share the view that it would take a constitutional amendment to deny automatic citizenship to children born in the U.S.to parents who are in the country illegally.

Trump spoke to "The Ingraham Angle" hours after the Pentagon announced it would deploy some 5,200 troops to the southern border in what the commander of U.S. Northern Command described as an effort to "harden the southern border" by stiffening defenses at and near legal entry points.

Abel Reyes and his girlfriend Maira each have two children who were born in the United States to non-citizen parents.

Trump has mentioned the idea of voiding the amendment before, most notably in August of 2015, when the birthright issue became part of his hard-line policies on immigration as a presidential candidate. Amendments to the Constitution require two-thirds of Congress voting to support them as well as ratification of three-quarters of states.
