Pascal Chimbonda tells Tottenham how they can beat Barcelona

Messi tormented Tottenham as Barcelona inflicted a Champions League blow on Tottenham Hotspur with a 4-2 victory at Wembley.

Barcelona beat Tottenham Hotspur 4-2 in their UEFA Champions League Group B clash at Wembley on Wednesday, with Lionel Messi putting on a show at the home of soccer.

At Wembley, as rightly predicted, there was plenty of goals to savour and Messi was in the thick of majority.

Spurs threw numbers forward in search of an equaliser, as the likes of Jan Vertonghen and Lamela went close to scoring late one in the half.

Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Rakitic scored in the first half before Lionel Messi took over after the interval and netted a brace to leave Spurs in desperate need of a win when they face PSV in Eindhoven three weeks from now.

The lead was short-lived, though, and Messi restored Barca's two-goal lead within five minutes. "You dream of playing in games like this and especially against players like Messi".

But this was another harsh lesson for Tottenham in Europe, following the recent defeat against Inter and last season's elimination at the hands of Juventus.

He looks like a player who was born to play for Barcelona.

Both the pitch and the players have been overused and some kind of recovery is needed to turn the situation around.

The pitch at Wembley was in a poor state, 11 days after the stadium hosted Anthony Joshua's heavyweight boxing match against Alexander Povetkin, and Spurs must play on the surface again on Saturday when they host Cardiff.

Messi did make the promise to his fans this very season that he will be getting the European title home, but he has also hinted that if his team continues to provide the loopholes in the game, the chances of winning the Champions League will be down the drain.

The last time the Uruguayan was on the Champions League scoresheet away from Camp Nou was against Roma in the Stadio Olimpico back in September 2015 and he walked off the Wembley turf having failed to end that barren run. The man just knows where everybody is.

Messi almost put the game away twice at the start of the second half, but both times his low curling shots clattered off the left post to keep Spurs trailing by just two goals.

He scored one on that occasion, but he made it two against Spurs by burying a chance following another Suarez dummy in the 90th minute.

A great start for Barcelona, what Lloris had in mind will remain a mystery.
