Diaz stars in Man City’s cup win; De Bruyne has injury scare

Oleksandr Zinchenko is hoping to show what he can do against Fulham

Manchester City have been dealt a huge setback with Kevin De Bruyne fearful he will be out for at least a month with a knee injury that will force him out of next week's Manchester derby.

De Bruyne only recently returned from another knee problem that forced him to miss two months this season, limiting the Belgium global to five appearances.

The Premier League champions face Southampton on Sunday before a Champions League date with Shakhtar Donetsk next week.

"He is being checked by the doctors", City manager Pep Guardiola said.

"Kevin was already out two and a half months, and we are sad for him".

The Belgian suffered the problem to his left knee in the 86th minute of Thursday's 2-0 Carabao Cup win at home to Fulham.

Bernardo Silva is set to be the big beneficiary if De Bruyne is ruled out while Fabian Delph will make way for Fernandinho. "We want him but it doesn't depend on us, it is the agent, him, family - they decide". He knew that at the start of the season and wanted to stay.

Diaz's first goal was fortunate, his shot taking a deflection off Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic and flying past flat-footed goalkeeper Sergio Rico.

"You can not expect a player like we know Kevin is to come back and have the rhythm and the pace and everything". Guardiola admitted that he is aware of Brahim's frustration: "As far as we are concerned, he's a very good player - that's our opinion of him".

"Today he was involved in offence and defence, hopefully what happened in the last minute is not serious".
