Georgia's Kemp probes Democrats over alleged voter systems hack

Oprah Winfrey

Stacey Abrams, Georgia's Democratic nominee for governor, lashed out against Republican challenger Brian Kemp on Sunday over his office's 11th-hour claim that Democrats had attempted to hack into the state's voter registration system.

"Go with God, go with objective, go with your values, upholding everything we believe to be true about Stacey Abrams and why we're all voting for her", Winfrey said.

Abrams, an African-American woman, has accused Kemp of intentionally purging voters to target minorities. I don't want to run.

If elected Abrams would be the state's first black governor.

United States talk show superstar Oprah Winfrey has been knocking on doors to get voters behind Stacey Abrams, much to the delight of those answering them.

Mr Pence has criticised Ms Abrams for using Ms Winfrey during her campaign.

Georgia, however, is home to a booming film industry, thanks to more than $1 billion in tax credits over the past decade, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "I'm not here because I'm making some grandstand because I'm thinking of running myself". President Trump will appear with Kemp on Sunday.

Abrams, who is polling nearly neck-and-neck with Kemp, told CNN that she had been unaware of her opponent's investigation into her party. "Are you voting for her?" she asks.

As Winfrey was speaking, Vice President Mike Pence was in Dalton, about 70 miles north of Marietta, to add his support to Kemp. "But this is the South, people have been really wonderful and really optimistic about Stacey Abrams".

Pence said he had a message for Abrams and her other celebrity friends - including Will Ferrell - who rallied for her in Georgia: "This ain't Hollywood!". "Oprah Winfrey has a spiritual connection with so much of this country, and it was built over years and years of doing that talk show", McDowell said on Fox News's "Outnumbered".

Videos uploaded to Ms Winfrey's and Ms Abrams' social media showed the television personality knocking on doors canvassing for the hopeful governor.

Investigative journalism website WhoWhatWhy reported Sunday that they had received an email and document, sent from the Democratic Party of Georgia to election security experts, that highlights "massive" vulnerabilities within the state's online voter registration system.

The robocall says it was paid for by the group Road to Power, which is an Idaho-based white supremacist group.
