John Cena has pulled out of WWE’s controversial Saudi Arabia show

John Cena won't take part in WWE's Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia

Vince McMahon's promotion has been urged by fans and US Senators to reassess their ongoing 10-year multi-million dollar relationship with the kingdom of Saudi Arabia following the murder of Washington Post Journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the country's consulate in Istanbul.

Following the bout the two Smackdown superstars suffered a savage attack by Samoa Joe, who made them both black out to the Coquina Clutch and then replaced the Leader of the Cenation in the WWE Championship Match ahead of Friday's PPV.

"WWE has operated in the Middle East for almost 20 years and has developed a sizable and dedicated fan base", the company said in a statement alongside third-quarter financial results.

According to Pro Wrestling Sheet, WWE has confirmed that The Hulkster will serve as the host for Crown Jewel, marking his first appearance on WWE TV since the Summer of 2015.

But unlike the global mixed martial brand UFC, made popular by the likes of Khabib Nurmagomedov that terminated its $400 million deal with kingdom, WWE chose to go ahead with the event due to the success of its previous show "Greatest Royal Rumble", which sold out the 60,000 capacity King Abdullah worldwide Stadium in Jeddah last April.

No female wrestlers are allowed to participate at the Saudi event. I'm not entirely sure how good of a decision it will prove to be to have the preceding match be a Street Fight, especially if you want to save a better part of the action for the pay-per-view. "Full year 2018 guidance is predicated on the staging of the Riyadh event as scheduled".

The company reinstated him to the Hall of Fame earlier this year and is now looking to him bolster an event shrouded in controversy. However, WWE.com's official preview of tonight's SmackDown states that the pair are scheduled to have a confrontation - one which many are assuming will write Bryan out of Crown Jewel one way or another.

Reports at the time stated that several WWE stars left that meeting with Hogan, who was apologizing for his racist language that was uncovered in his leaked tape, believing that Hogan's apology wasn't genuine at all and that he was only sorry for getting caught.

There has not yet been any word of any other potential changes to the Crown Jewel show.
