Khashoggi’s body was ‘dissolved’ after murder - Erdogan advisor

Bill Gates cancels $5m aid to Saudi following Jamal Khashoggi’s murder

The timing of the meeting came as the Washington Post reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had asked senior members of the Trump administration to continue supporting Bin Salman despite the controversy surrounding his involvement in the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Israel and Saudi Arabia do not have diplomatic relations but share intelligence about their mutual enemies, especially Iran.

Khashoggi, a prominent Saudi journalist and critic of the regime, was last seen entering the kingdom's consulate in Istanbul on October 2.

In a statement to the newspaper, Khashoggi's family denied he was a member of the Muslim Brotherhood and said the murdered writer had himself denied this repeatedly in recent years. "The president said we will demand accountability for those who were involved in the commission of this heinous crime".

That version has aroused considerable skepticism among Saudi watchers, considering bin Salman's vast control over what happens in the kingdom.

An activist holds a sign and image of missing Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi during a demonstration calling for sanctions against Saudi Arabia and to protest Khashoggi's disappearance, outside the White House in Washington, US, October 19, 2018.

US State Department spokesman Robert Palladino on Thursday called for Khashoggi's remains to be located and returned to his family for burial as soon as possible. On Wednesday, Switzerland announced it was suspending arms exports to Saudi over Khashoggi's killing.

Khashoggi, a Saudi national working for the U.S. press, was a well-known critic of his home country's rulers.

Turkey, for its part, said Khashoggi was strangled the moment he entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, the city's chief prosecutor said on Wednesday, adding that it was a premeditated murder.

Turkey complies with any "foreign interventions" on its major issues, the main opposition party leader said, suggesting that Ankara allowed the murderers of the Saudi journalist to leave Turkey after a phone call between Saudi King Salman and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Turkey maintains that Saudi officials have information on those responsible for the murder and the whereabouts of Khashoggi's remains.

A Saudi official yesterday denied the Crown Prince made the allegations, saying that "routine calls do exist from time to time" between the royal and U.S. leaders but that "no such commentary was conveyed". Turkey wants the suspects to be extradited.

But analysts say the relationship between Saudi Arabia - which has at times tolerated and abetted the loosely defined political movement - and the group is more nuanced.

Saudi Arabia initially claimed that he left the consulate building alive, before saying a team of spies killed Khashoggi, without the knowledge of MbS.
