Oprah doorknocks in support of possible first black female USA governor

Watch: Battling for Attention Over Oprah Mike Pence Forced to Tell GOP Voters ‘I’m Kind of a Big Deal Too’

Winfrey, who has been urged to run for office for months now, told the crowd: "I'm not trying to test any waters, don't want to go in those waters".

Oprah Winfrey - one of the most prominent celebrities in the United States - is a big supporter of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams in Georgia. "This is really going to make [Abrams], I think, the next governor of the state of Georgia".

The pitches from Pence and Winfrey clearly fit Abrams' and Kemp's respective strategies. "Like I head I heard Oprah is in town today". "She cares about medicaid expansion, keeping families together", she said.

Vice President Mike Pence said Thursday a vote for Brian Kemp is tantamount to support for President Donald Trump, as he assailed Democrat Stacey Abrams and her high-profile supporters at a rally that attracted thousands in Dalton.

Stacey Abrams, who is vying to become the nation's first female African-American governor, got a big campaign push in Georgia from Oprah Winfrey ahead of Election Day.

Winfrey praised Abrams for "standing strong for the values that matter to me and the values that matter to Georgians all over this state".

"Surprised?" the woman, named Denise, said.

At a separate appearance with Kemp Thursday morning, Pence mocked Abrams for receiving support from Winfrey and actor Will Ferrell on the campaign trail, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

More than 1.5 million of the state's nearly seven million registered voters have cast ballots already.

Videos uploaded to Ms Winfrey's and Ms Abrams' social media showed the television personality knocking on doors canvassing for the hopeful governor. Winfrey has since dismissed the notion that she would challenge Trump in 2020.

"And I've got a message for all of Stacey Abrams' liberal Hollywood friends: This ain't Hollywood".
