Teen strangled mom during argument over bad grade, police say

The house where the killing took place

Chitwood said Ramos told them what really happened after he initially tried to say his mother dropped him off to school Friday morning.

Ramos is charged with first-degree premeditated murder in the death of his mother, Gail Cleavenger, 46, at their home at 35 Alicante Road.

Gregory's two friends, both 17-years-old, are facing charges of being accessories to a crime after the fact, authorities said.

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood took Spectrum News behind the River City Church to a trail that deputies say the teens used to access a fire pit, where they allegedly buried Cleavenger's body.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with funeral expenses.

Chitwood told WKMG Ramos enlisted the help of his friends to bury his mother's body in a fire pit where they had previously gone to drink and do drugs, because the ground was "malleable".

"The decision on whether to charge the defendants as adults has yet to be made", Hathaway said.

In Ceglarek's case, the grandparents, Joe and Marion Cappizzi, of Deltona, who have custody of the teen who turns 18 on December 20, did not even know that their grandchild was not in school on Friday, the day Ceglarek was out helping Ramos, Jacques said.

Officials with the Sheriff's Office said the 15-year-old called 911 Friday, claiming to have found his home burglarized, his mother nowhere to be found and her vehicle running.

He later confessed to the murder of his mother and implicated his friends.

Investigators learned in the confession from Ramos that he strangled Cleavenger to death in a fit of rage after an argument because Ramos received a D in a school subject.

The Volusia County Sheriff's Office was originally called out to a reported burglary just before 4 p.m. on Friday.

"To watch how cold and callous and calculating he was, I think was probably the most shocking thing for all of us", Chitwood said. There, he buried the body beneath a fire pit. All our hearts break for this family, ' he added on Twitter. This suspect "matter of factly" admitted to everything, and said he thought he deserved a "Grammy [sic]" for his performance on the 911 call, Chitwood said.
