UFC 230 Post-Fight Press Conference

Daniel Cormier On Brock Lesnar, Jon Jones: 'The Mega Fight Is Jones & I'

Immediately after Cormier's maiden 265lbs title defence, attention turned to the prospect of him have a trilogy fight with Jones.

Those in attendance and watching via pay-per-view witnessed two-division champion Daniel Cormier defend his heavyweight title in the fight card's main event by submitting challenger Derrick Lewis in the second round.

Cormier outclassed Derrick Lewis with his wrestling ability and took Lewis to the ground several times over two rounds, eventually finishing Lewis with a rear naked choke.

White noted that Cormier and Derrick Lewis took the UFC 230 fight on short notice and he wants to let Cormier take some time off with his family.

There was a decent amount of hype heading into this one but when the octagon doors closed, it became evident very quickly that the gap in skill between these two would be too vast for Lewis to conquer. Part of the appeal of Lewis is he's a man you can never count out, but stylistically he had nothing for Cormier - and Cormier knew it. Oh boy, look at that!

Cormier called out Lesnar for a blockbuster heavyweight bout.

A series of big strikes prompted to Lewis to give up his back and Cormier manhandled him on the mat, turning him back over to land more heavy shots before the end of the opening round.

Lewis fought on that same UFC 229 card as McGregor and Nurmagomedov, and was getting thoroughly beaten by Alexander Volkov for nearly the entire three rounds that they fought before he landed a ideal punch and finished the fight with follow-up strikes in the fight's final 10 seconds. "If you have a puncher's chance it's not good enough".

Quoted on the UFC website, Cormier said after the fight: 'There are no surprises with me. Weidman stunned Souza with a right that smashed the Brazilian's nose, making it spew blood for the remainder of the first round. Adesanya, who has earned comparisions to a young Anderson Silva, danced in the middle of the octagon on a night where a new star was seemingly born.

History says Cormier will have a hard time walking away.
