UN Officials: Caravan Rhetoric Violates 'Right to Mental Health' of Migrants

Invasion! Sinclair’s 173 TV stations air ‘must-run’ anti-migrant screed as narrative battle heats

Still stinging from the tear gas that beat back their attempt to breach the US-Mexican border, members of the Central American migrant caravan are starting to lose hope, and in some cases are turning back.

A migrant mother photographed running with her daughters from tear gas at the U.S. -Mexico border said she never expected the U.S. Border Patrol to fire gas canisters at children and families.

Meanwhile, some Central Americans have approached federal police officers and the Beta Group - a unit of the National Institute of Migration specialised in providing guidance and assistance to migrants - upon learning that there is an option for people who wish to return voluntarily to their countries of origin.

"I came here for one reason, and that's because there is a lot of violence in Honduras", said Meza, as her children played with empty tear gas canisters shot by the Border Patrol.

Trump issued an executive order earlier this month barring migrants who sneak across the border from filing asylum claims.

Mexico's National Migration Institute reported that 98 migrants were being deported after trying to breach the USA border.

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy called Tuesday's White House meeting "very productive" and said Trump "is very solid with where he wants to go and what he needs to have a secure border".

More than 40 of the migrants who rushed the border and made it into the USA were apprehended Sunday.

House Republicans approved $5 billion for Trump's wall in a key committee, but a bipartisan bill in the Senate allocates just $1.6 billion for the border.

The woman and her children were found in an area that Border Patrol described as "an active construction site".

A Peaceful Demonstration Turns Ugly at US Border

What started as a peaceful march turned chaotic and violent Sunday when groups from the migrant caravan tried to access the border. The company is again requiring their stations to read what they refer to as a "must run" script. "While Gastélum noted he did not agree with the measures taken by CBP agents, he said he has ". mixed emotions and [is] a little bit mad with the people who are taking their kids, taking their little ones, their siblings to a point where it is very risky for them and it is not fair".

At times, such responses can involve "less lethal capabilities crossing the border", he said, adding that wind may blow gas in various directions.

"In a border context, when you are dealing with assaultive behavior, you're addressing it to resolve the situation", he said. "Ultimately, American authorities had to use tear gas to stop the attacks".

"Entering our country illegally, particularly over our walls is not only unsafe, but also very foolish", Scott said in the statement.

"Do you know if they are going to deport us?" asked Melanie Murillo Hernandez, a university student from Honduras who is pregnant and seeking a better life for her child.

Last week, U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said there could be new troops at the border in the future with new missions.

"The Democrats would like people to believe that they're legitimate asylum seekers, but legitimate asylum seekers don't attack border guards", Cheney said. The country's Interior Department said about 500 people attempted to rush the border, while US authorities put the number at 1,000.

Mr Trump's defence of the federal agents' actions comes after the United States president denied armed forces had used tear gas against children - despite photos and videos showed people, including families and children, running and screaming from a cloud of tear gas.

The agency said that "pieces of rebar" had pierced the woman, a 26-year-old who has not been publicly identified, in the side of her torso and in her buttock Friday about a mile from an official border crossing at San Ysidro, California.
