Apple lied about iPhone X screen size and pixel count, lawsuit alleges

Apple to update iPhone software after threat of China ban

As a result, Apple announced a few hours ago that it will launch a software update to resolve any possible patent infringement.

"Based on the iPhone models we offer today in China, we believe we are in compliance", Apple said in a statement. The iPhone models mentioned in the ban continue to be available for purchase in China. Apple claims that the current version, iOS 12, doesn't infringe Qualcomm's patents-though Qualcomm denies this.

"We respect the Fuzhou court and its ruling", said Apple in the statement.

Meanwhile, Qualcomm is pushing even harder on Apple, apparently emblazoned by the preliminary injunctions win this week. However Apple claimed the chip-maker was trying to squeeze an unfair percentage of licensing fees out of the deal, and artificially control the LTE market.

Qualcomm and Apple's legal battle dates back to early 2017 when Apple hit the chipmaker with a $1 billion lawsuit over what the company alleges were unfair patent licensing practices. The injunctions - which heavily favor Qualcomm - essentially put a Chinese sales ban into effect for the Apple iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X.

Qualcomm has also brought patent suits in China and other jurisdictions, seeking bans on the sale of iPhones to force Apple to the negotiating table.

Apple admitted that if it can not avoid the Chinese sales ban, it will be forced to settle with Qualcomm.

Apple did not immediately respond to questions about the reconsideration request and Reuters was not independently able to confirm its authenticity. Qualcomm has not provided us with details of the specific patents Apple has infringed, but software patents often cover broad, vaguely worded concepts, leaving it open to interpretation which software might infringe them.

Apple warned that the ban would hurt Chinese manufacturers like Foxconn and noted that it had created 5 million jobs across the countrys supply chain.
