CFIA announces recall of cauliflower, lettuce because of E. coli fears

Adam Bros. Farming Recalls Lettuce and Cauliflower

A farm in California connected with a recall of romaine lettuce earlier this year has recalled other types of produce, due to possible E. coli contamination.

The Santa Monica, California, company said the cauliflower that was affected by the recall was harvested between November 27 and 30.

That said, there have been no cases reported yet of actual illness associated to the consumption of these products, yet. CFIA confirms these products have been imported and sold across Canada to several Canadian provinces.

The growing list of recalls is impacting some local restaurants. Farming, Inc. said. None of the filtered and treated water has tested positive for E. coli, the company said. Officials say if you have one of the recalled products, you should throw it out. Because the water may have come in contact with the vegetables, the farm decided on the larger recall.

In severe cases of illness, some people may have seizures or strokes, need blood transfusions and kidney dialysis, or obtain permanent kidney damage. The cauliflower was sold to wholesalers in IL and other states, however the lettuces were not distributed to wholesalers in IL.

Out of an abundance of caution, Giant Eagle promptly removed the products from its produce department.

Recalled red and green leaf lettuce was sent to wholesalers in California, Colorado, Minnesota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas and Washington state.

If you have the suspect cauliflower in your refrigerator, return it to the store where you bought it or destroy it.

Consumers are being urged to check red lettuce for code PLU 4075 and green lettuce for code PLU 4076.
