Deontay Wilder v Tyson Fury has 'changed whole dynamic of heavyweight division'

Wilder retains WBC heavyweight belt after battling to draw against Fury

Deontay Wilder retained his WBC heavyweight crown here yesterday after battling to a split decision draw against Britain's Tyson Fury in a pulsating 12-round battle.

Wilder, the undefeated WBC champion retained his title after squaring off against undefeated challenger and former WBA, WBO, IBO, and unofficial lineal champion Fury, in front of nearly 18,000 people at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Wilder had Fury on the canvas twice, including a spectacular final round knockdown, but was unable to get the knockout victory he had promised to deliver at the Staples Center.

Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder met on Saturday night in Staples Center for a highly-anticipated heavyweight title fight with Wilder's WBC championship on the line.

One judge scored the bout in Wilder's favor 115-111, while the second judge scored the bout 114-110 for Fury, and the final judge scored the fight 113-113.

Even though Wilder made a throat-slashing gesture and mouthed "It's over", Fury beat the count and went back to work.

Further success in the 10th round when he landed with both lefts and rights and hurt Wilder, 33, again gave him the momentum when it became increasingly clear the champion was running out of time.

"?One hundred? percent we'll do the rematch", said Fury, fighting in the first heavyweight title pay-per-view bout in America since 2002.

While Fury (27-0-1, 19 KO) was significantly hurt after both knockdowns, in both rounds he rallied back to actually stun Wilder before those rounds ended.

Fury meanwhile insisted he had done enough to win.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 live's boxing podcast, Costello said: "It has created all this controversy and debate, but it came at the end not of a stinker, as many of us feared, but it's a draw that we are all talking about - it's contentious for me, rather than controversial".

"I would love for it to be my next fight", Wilder said.

Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sports, which promotes Joshua, stayed up to watch the fight from England and told ESPN.com via email: "I had Fury winning the fight as most did".

"I came out slow". I was too hesitant. I don't know anyone on the planet that can move like that. I wasn't hurt. I did not sit still, I was too hesitant, I started overthrowing the right hand.

Fury by contrast cleverly picked his moments, finding Wilder with greater accuracy and causing a nasty swelling over the American's left eye.

The next two rounds were fairly quiet in nature - though Wilder busted Fury's nose open late in the fourth.
