Mueller to detail ex-NSA Flynn's cooperation in Russian Federation probe

Michael Cohen's lawyers ask for no prison time

Cohen, who once said he would take a bullet for Trump, is cooperating with special counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation investigation in hopes of receiving a shorter prison sentence.

The filing says that Mueller recommends no prison time for Flynn after he has provided the investigation with "substantial assistance" in the investigation.

The court document, sent to the court Tuesday, is Mueller's chance to document the extent to which Flynn's cooperation aided his probe and to recommend a sentence based on that analysis.

Flynn's sentencing will take place on December 18, more than a year after he pleaded guilty. In late 2016, the two allegedly spoke about the US sanctions imposed on Russian Federation.

It's unclear if Trump will now turn his fury on Flynn, who Trump grew close to during the 2016 campaign and has drawn the president's sympathy since he came under investigation.

Flynn also admitted that later in December 2016 he asked Kislyak not to retaliate in response to the Obama administration sanctions, something he initially told Federal Bureau of Investigation agents he didn't do. Flynn was under investigation by the Justice Department for that work when he became national security adviser. The filing described Flynn's transgressions as "serious", but added that his cooperation with Mueller's investigation is enough to eliminate going to prison.

Questions also have been raised about the Flynn plea itself, considering a congressional Republican report earlier this year claimed fired Federal Bureau of Investigation boss James Comey once testified that Federal Bureau of Investigation agents did not think Flynn intentionally lied.

President Donald Trump called on his former lawyer Michael Cohen to get a strict prison sentence on Monday after Cohen admitted to lying as part of a plea deal.

Whatever it is that Flynn said, it's clear that Mueller liked it.

US President Donald Trump has called for a "full and complete" sentence for his former lawyer Michael Cohen, weighing in on a judicial proceeding with accusations Cohen lied about dealings with Russian Federation during his 2016 presidential campaign. Manafort, Trump's former campaign chairman, was found guilty on eight counts of financial crimes. Stone told ABC News on Sunday he would not testify against Trump and has not discussed a pardon with the president.

Cohen also pleaded he lied to Congress when he said the potential project to build Trump hotel in Moscow fell through in January 2016, when his talks to a Russian official about it actually ended in June 2016.

In this image made from a video taken on December 10, 2015 and made available on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017, US President Donald Trump's former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, right, shakes hands with Russian President Vladimir Putin, in Moscow. He is now serving a 14-day prison sentence. "He (Trump) is attempting to influence an ongoing investigation in an overt way". This suggests that the investigation may not be wrapping up soon.
