NFL Star Kareem Hunt Cut From Chiefs After Violent Video Surfaced

Kareem Hunt cut by Kansas City Chiefs after alleged assault video on woman emerges

The Chiefs released him after the release of a video showing Hunt shoving and kicking a woman.

The woman Kareem Hunt slammed down and kicked was initially gung-ho to press charges against the then-NFL superstar, but she's since gone silent.

Hunt sat down with ESPN's Lisa Salters for a one-on-one interview Sunday, expressing remorse for the incident while also asking for forgiveness and another opportunity in the NFL.

Although the details of the February incident are well known following the release of the surveillance video by TMZ on Friday, the details of the June incident aren't as clear.

Hunt was released Friday following the release of the TMZ video after the team determined that Hunt was "not truthful" in his discussions with the Chiefs about what occurred.

The Eagles' certainly do have a need at running back, which is why bringing in Hunt will likely be very tempting for the front office, even if he nearly certainly won't be playing until the 2019 season at the earliest. Nearly immediately, TMZ reported, the Chiefs sent Hunt home early from a practice.

"That's not me. That's not the person I am".

But the video, which shows Hunt shoving the woman several times and kicking her as others try to hold him back, led the National Football League to place Hunt on the "Commissioner Exempt List", preventing him from playing, practicing or attending games. He said that he had only met her once before the incident and didn't know how to get in touch with her. Despite that move by the league, any team is free to claim Hunt on waivers before 4 p.m. on Monday. Police said they did not see the video until it was made public.

The Chiefs had initially stuck by Hunt, despite reports of the woman's assault accusations.

The Chiefs said the footage proved that Hunt, who helped propel the team to first place in the AFC with a 9-2 record, had been "untruthful" with investigators. I know my upbringing wasn't flawless.

The Star has also been unsuccessful in attempts to contact the woman who was shoved and kicked by Hunt.

Hunt apologized to the woman in the video, the Chiefs organization and his family.

The NFL is reportedly investigating a separate incident where Kareem Hunt was accused of punching a man in the face at an OH resort in the months after he beat a 18-year-old woman in a hotel. I regret the decision I made that night.

Hunt remains on the exempt list, which means a team could sign him but he would be unable to play or attend games until the league's investigation is complete.

He said several times he was "embarrassed" by the video and insisted, "I know right from wrong". And with a soft schedule down the stretch, including two games against the Raiders, there is plenty of time for their offense to adjust to life without Hunt in the backfield. "And I know that's where I masked a lot of my problems".

As to the why he did what he did, apparently "some things were said".
