Derby claim training ground 'spy' stopped by police was Leeds employee

DOUBTFUL Pablo Hernandez right

English football has reacted to Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa's admission he sent a spy to gather information on Championship rivals Derby County before their game on Friday with equal disgust, humor and understanding. "For me, it's enough that Frank Lampard and Derby County felt that was not the right thing to do for me to believe I didn't behave well".

Media reports claimed the man involved was a "spy" sent by Leeds and Bielsa confirmed those allegations, revealing that he personally sent the man in question without notifying the club.

The club's Italian owner Andrea Radrizzani has met with his Derby counterpart Mel Morris to apologise for Bielsa's actions.

Leeds overcame Frank Lampard's outfit 2-0 at Elland Road, but it was the incident that happened at Derby's training ground that had the Rams boss raging.

Leeds' victory takes them five points clear of nearest challengers Norwich City, who face fourth-place West Brom on Saturday, while Derby remain in sixth.

Lampard called the incident "bad", telling Sky prior to the match that "if we are going to start talking about 'culturally I did it somewhere else and it was fine, ' then that doesn't work for me". I didn't ask for the permission of the club of Leeds United to do that. "The responsibility for this incident is mine", Bielsa told Sky on Friday, via an interpreter.

"Without trying to find a justification, I've been using these practices since the qualifications for the World Cup with Argentina".

His assist for Roofe's goal showed what he is all about with some sparkling work on the right-hand side before a pinpoint cross found Roofe in the box and the gun striker slotted home to give Leeds the lead.

Asked about Bielsa taking responsibility, Lampard said: "Well that's good, I spoke to him yesterday afternoon myself and he did the same to me so I'm pleased he's done it again and said that".

Derby County have very much been the nearly-men of the Championship over the past few years, often falling at the final hurdles keeping them from returning to the Premier League.

"It doesn't matter if this is legal or illegal, right or wrong".

Bielsa stated that sending someone to observe an opponent's training session was a common tactic he had used throughout his career.

"To sum up I am the only one responsible and I must respect the country I am in".
