Manchester United fans worship David de Gea after stunning display vs Tottenham

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on substitutes

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer passed his first real test as Manchester United caretaker manager as his side beat high-flying Tottenham 1-0 at Wembley on Sunday, with David de Gea playing a huge part.

The Spaniard proved once again that he is the man for the big occasion as he managed to keep a clean-sheet in the 1-0 victory.

United now had a lead to protect as Tottenham pushed for an equaliser in the second half and the hosts created a hat-full of chances, however, they failed to get past the in-form De Gea between the United sticks.

"It wasn't the intention of the United player but it was a bad tackle and now he has bit of a swelling on his ankle and he was limping after the game".

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer went in to the match looking to maintain his flawless record having won all five of his matches in all competitions since replacing Jose Mourinho as United manager last month.

"He is the best goalkeeper in the world, I have said it many times".

Pochettino's men would go on to batter Manchester United after the break, only to be denied by a combination of poor finishing and excellent goalkeeping, with David de Gea making 11 saves in the second half alone.

"We all enjoy playing football, playing together and that's what we did today".

"We dominated in the first half but we didn't organised ourselves well when we lost Moussa Sissoko and that is how we conceded the goal". "I can only judge the performance of them [at Wembley]".

Asked last month by Sky how he might respond to an offer to take charge of a major club, the England boss responded: 'Well, I think at the moment that's very easy because I don't have anything to consider. They had chances but we defended well and got the three points. It was really hard with the system and tactics we used to play, I want to be more attacking, pressing, playing high.

Reports on Sunday suggested the England manager had been added to the Old Trafford shortlist amid concerns that Mauricio Pochettino could prove hard to prise away from Tottenham, should the Argentine want the job.
