The Whiteboard: The Chicago Bulls got a good return for Justin Holiday

By trading Justin Holiday, the Bulls are most notably gaining two second-round draft picks, one for 2019, another for 2020.

In exchange for the 29-year-old guard, Memphis sent guard MarShon Brooks and guard/forward Wayne Selden Jr.to Chicago.

Memphis hopes for a revival behind Holiday, who has averaged 11.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.76 steals in nearly 35 minutes a game as a starter for the Bulls.

A starter for the Bulls, Justin Holiday heads to the Grizzlies with averages of 11.6 points and 4.4 rebounds. This season, Brooks is averaging 6.6 points and 1.6 rebounds in limited playing time.

The Chicago Tribune reported in the wake of the deal that the Bulls still have small forward Jabari Parker and center Robin Lopez on the trade market. Meanwhile, Selden's 32 percent 3-point shooting and his penchant for overexuberant mistakes made it hard for coach J.B. Bickerstaff to trust him on the court.

Chicago now has 16 players on the roster, so they have to waive one to get down to 15, making Cameron Payne expendable. That means the Bulls will enter this summer's draft with at least two picks.

Before this trade, the Bulls didn't have a second-round pick in 2019, having parted with it in a trade of Jose Calderon to the Lakers in July 2016 as part of a quest to clear cap space to sign Dwyane Wade. The 38.3 percent from the floor was the second-worst mark of his career, topping only last year's 37.1 percent showing (for a full season, Holiday shot 33.3 percent in nine games for Philadelphia in 2012-13).
